Scientific evidence behind microcars.

The Microcar Coalition is grounded in research. Peer-reviewed studies and mobility assessments across Europe confirm the efficiency, safety potential, and urban benefits of the L7e vehicle class. Below is a selection of verified findings from leading research institutes, universities, and policy networks.

UP to 80% less energy consumption

According to the LEV4Climate study by the German Aerospace Center (DLR, 2022), four-wheel light electric vehicles (L-category) use 30 – 80 % less energy than conventional electric cars in real-world conditions.Their lighter mass, smaller batteries, and optimized aerodynamics lead to lower production emissions and operating energy demand. Half the size, double the potential

Studies by Transport & Environment (T&E) and the European Platform Urban Mobility find that microcars, averaging just 2.5 m length, occupy half the parking space of standard vehicles and significantly reduce congestion.Replacing 10 % of cars in dense European cities with L7e microcars could free up 15 – 20 % of street capacity for pedestrians and bikes. A fast-growing European sector

Market projections estimate that the European L7e segment will grow from ~30,000 units in 2025 to over 70,000 units by 2034, supported by urban electrification and local production.Manufacturers in Italy, Switzerland, and France are leading innovation in small-scale e-mobility, strengthening European industrial resilience.(Source: Precedence Research, 2024)
